What’s your inner voice telling you?

When was the last time you talk to yourself?

Were you happy and congratulate yourself on your success?

Or did you mutter some unpolite words to yourself for forgetting something or failing at a task you needed to do?

Actually how we talk to ourselves is affecting the way how the world is treating us as well.

The way you treat yourself sets the standard for how others treat you. Be kind, be firm, be loving with yourself—teach the world how you deserve to be loved.

Changing the unhelpful voice in our head can make a big difference.

In case your self-talk often sounds like:

  • I can’t …
  • I should /I shouldn’t …
  • I’m useless …
  • I’m too busy …
  • I’ll never …

simply exchanging those phrases with something like:

  • I choose to/I choose not to …
  • I want to …
  • I can learn how to
  • I’m not going to make this a priority right now …
  • I’ll get there …

can make a BIG change.

A perfect playground to try out a more cheerful and supportive version of your voice in your head is an Awareness Trough Movement (ATM) class.

You’ll be surprised how much you can achieve when you give yourself the OK for failure and mistakes.

Try and retry, rest and reconsider, adapting and retrying are parts of every Feldenkrais exploration.

Changing habits isn’t easy but if you are able to practice other ways of talking to yourself then bringing it into your day-to-day life is much easier.

My Awareness Through Movement Tip

  • Write the NEW phrases onto post-it’s and stick them at places you most likely to look at (e.g. bathroom mirror, kitchen cupboards, computer screen, next to your phone).
  • Fill a jar with a dried beans (marbles, pebbles) each time your were using it successfully.
  • Reflect on how your day was before going to bed. How many times have you used the kinder voice in your head? Take a note.

If you want some bigger changes in less time I suggest joining my online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes.

My current online program is at the bottom of this blog post.

But be aware that you might want to “move with ease” again and again!
