There is a lot of talk about balance these days.
Work-Life-Balance. A balanced diet. Having a good balance.
And of course there are many things which can throw us out of balance.
How well are you able to balance?
A little Feldenkrais test move #3
Take this little test (at your own risk) and see if you could benefit from working on your balancing skills.
- Stand on a hard surface. Cross your arms and place the hands softly on your shoulders.
- Lift one foot off the floor and keep it close to the standing leg.
- For how long can you stand comfortably without rearranging the standing foot, without moving your hands, without bringing the lifted foot down?
- Change over the crossing of your arms and stand on the other leg. Is that easier?
Up for a bigger challenge?
If this little test wasn’t challenging enough, try to increase the difficulty.
- Repeat the previous steps with closed eyes.
How well did you do?
- If you could stand solid like a rock for a minute or longer doing each of the challenges: Congrats!
- If you felt rather unstable or even anxious and couldn’t do it for longer than 20-30 seconds some improvement would help you in your daily life.
By improving your general organisation of our body you’ll be able to recover your balance more quickly.
How can you learn anything if you continue the movement after the interruption? You should stop the moment you lose balance and see what you did that wasn’t in order. Otherwise you can do this a million times, and it will still be disordered.
Moshé Feldenkrais, AY #90
As little as one hour a week might do wonders your own mobility and flexibility. By bringing attention to the way you move you can counteract the stiffness in your body.
Take an important step towards a more active and fulfilling life.
Join my regular online Feldenkrais sessions or work with me one to one.
Imagine how nice it would be to:
- feel stable when queuing.
- stand easily on one leg while brushing your teeth which is btw a brilliant exercise for your brain!
- reach higher when taking things out of the cupboard.
- improve your dance technique (e.g. ochos, giros, boleos).
- become more active again as the fear of falling or tripping over fades away.
Just one Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement online class can make a difference. Most likely you’ll end up more relaxed and want more.
