How easily can you reach?

When entering a living room and you notice many empty lower shelves you think: “Of course there must be toddlers around.”

But empty shelves above head height? Overcrowded worktops? Or even worse piles of STUFF on the floor? That tells a different story. Not only does it indicate the inhabitants aren’t able to reach upwards anymore. It also is begging for trouble!

Of course it’s clever to have your things accessible but why not invest in your own mobility and flexibility. One hour a week might do wonders and your upper shelves continue to be a decent storage space for your beloved belongings (e.g. books, games, clothes, pots, plates and food).

How well are you able to reach at the moment?

A little Feldenkrais test move #1

Take this little test (at your own risk) and see if you could benefit from working on your reaching skills.

  • Stand in front of a (closed) door. Slide one hand upwards on the door, over the frame and maybe even above it. You could mark your highest point with a post-it.

  • Try the same with the other arm.

Are you able to reach the same height?

Does it feel different with the right and left arm?

The results might be surprising or even unsettling for you. But they do not need to define you.

“The Feldenkrais Method is based on biological optimism.”

Ruthy Alon

By bringing attention to the way you move you can counteract the stiffness in your body.

That will help you to:

  • Increase the height to which you can lift your arms.
  • Release some tension in your shoulders & neck.
  • Improve the flexibility of your spine and your hips.
  • Calm down your nervous system.
  • Make your daily life easier.

Just one Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement online class can make a difference. Most likely you’ll end up more relaxed.

But be aware that you might want to “move with ease” again and again!

As usual curiosity is crucial when joining my online Feldenkrais classes.

Thanks to the internet you can benefit from my Feldenkrais classes from wherever you are in Europe via Zoom. That will even save you time and money as you skip your commute to the in person classes.

If you feel curious about it and you could do with more range and comfort in your body please get in touch.
